TitanCon 2017 kicks off with a relaxed and cultured evening of readings from our author guests at TitanCon Literature Night. The Wellington Hotel bar will be open all evening and this will be the perfect way to catch up with old friends and make some new ones before the convention proper begins.
For the first time we are expanding our Friday plans with some additional literature programming taking place on Friday afternoon from 3.00 pm. We understand not everyone will be able to make it in time, but we want to provide more things for early birds to see and do at TitanCon. We hope this proves popular and if that's the case then we may expand the Friday further in 2018.
Please note that everything on Friday is still FREE to attend, a little sample of what you can experience on the Saturday at TitanCon. So if you want to just try it out for a short while and see if you might enjoy coming along for the full day, then please feel free to come down to our literature programming in the afternoon and Literature Night in the evening. You would be very welcome!
Our registration desk will open at 2.30 pm for TitanCon members to pick up their membership badges. The registration desk will be open through till about 9.00 pm.
For the first time we are going to have some Literature Programming on the Friday afternoon at TitanCon. We are still in the planning stages of this so we don't have all the details just yet, but we wanted to let everyone know so you can arrange to be here if you'd like to attend. There will probably be two panels, the first at 3.00 pm and the second at 4.00 pm. We will have a full announcement of what these programming items will be nearer the time so please check back for updates or follow us on Twitter for the latest announcements.
This will be the best opportunity for volunteers to find out everything that is going on at TitanCon 2017, everything that needs to be done and we will be arranging shift times for all volunteers.
TitanCon is a fan convention by the fans for the fans. Everyone that helps run this convention, including the organising committee, are volunteers who give up their own time to do the essential work to run things smoothly on the day. TitanCon cannot exist without the help and support of a dedicated group of volunteers and therefore we urgently need your help at TitanCon 2017.
In 2014 I feel like we really got things right with the way we organised our volunteers. For the first time we had job descriptions for every volunteer position, we organised our volunteers into separate teams with a Team Leader responsible for managing each team rather than having a single volunteer co-ordinator trying to organise all of the volunteers across the entire convention, and most importantly we had a brilliant response from you guys with more volunteers than ever before. We want to build on the success of the last few years and continue to run TitanCon in the same smooth, relaxed and organised way in 2017.
But we can only do this with the help of wonderful people that are willing to give up an hour or two of their day to help run TitanCon. In years past we have been in the situation where we simply did not have enough volunteers to cover the entire convention and as a result some of our volunteers did not get to see the panels and events they wished to see, and some barely got a break at all. That's something we really don't want to have happen again. Therefore we are asking people that are interested and those that have been to two or three TitanCons that haven't helped out before to give a little back please. If you are willing to give up an hour or two of your day to help us run the convention that would be fantastic.
Please see our volunteers page for more information about volunteering and the volunteers meeting.
Coming to your first convention can be a little unnerving for anyone, especially if you are on your own and don't know anybody else there. TitanCon is very much a community experience and we want everyone to be a part of that community in order to get the most out of being a member of the convention. But we recognise that it's not that easy to just turn up and get involved when there is a large group of people that all know each other from many years of shared experiences and a deep friendship between them. It can actually be a little intimidating to try and say hello and get involved on the first night of the convention, but we really don't want anybody to feel like that. Literature Night is really great but it is a passive experience that admittedly doesn't lend itself greatly to social engagement, and by the time everyone is in the bar later on it can be a bit too late for that.
Therefore, we have created this half hour welcome session for anyone that is new to conventions (or just new to TitanCon) and would like to understand more about what happens at TitanCon, what you might like to see and do during the convention, and you'll also have the chance to ask us some questions. This session will also provide the opportunity to meet other TitanCon first-timers along with the organisers of the convention who will give you a friendly hello and welcome.
We hope for a good turnout at the welcome session, it will be a good orientation to what happens at TitanCon and should give everyone an introduction to a few familiar faces that you can hopefully bond with and begin those social interactions that make conventions truly memorable and great experiences.
TitanCon is pleased to announce that Literature Night will be FREE entry for anyone that wants to attend. This means you don't need to purchase a TitanCon ticket to get in on Friday night, you can just come along and enjoy our author guests reading excerpts from their latest novel or short story.
We expect the readings will be finished by around 9.30 pm and the bar will be open through till 1.00 am for those that wish to chat and socialize.
We will announce the full line up of which guests will be reading at Literature Night nearer the time so check back for updates, or follow us on Twitter for the latest annnouncements.
We invite TitanCon attendees to visit the Grand Opening of our Art Show. Be the first to see the artwork we have on display this year and make an offer on the pieces you really want to buy. The artists will be on hand to answer questions and talk about their artwork.
